 Spoon please!
···

April 10th, 2008 ··· andarius

I am reminded daily how lazy and spoon fed the average person is these days. I shall give you a prime example which I actually witnessed first hand myself.

While serving as the IMO/ISAO of a company I was tasked to update and add some software to a good number of machines. I had just finished doing this to the machine of one of our senior personnel. I asked this person to log in and check things out to make sure all was OK. As standard policy the log-in screen is the standard Press ctl+alt+del deal. I sat in stunned awe as this person who had been using this very computer for several months at a minimum proceeded to click on that window for nearly a whole minute. After this time I could contain myself no longer an said “I think you actually have to use the keys”. The user did so and was presented with the actual log in screen as expected.

My point here is not management is some what lacking these days in most cases. This is a point most of us already know. My point is the average person is so spoon fed that they will not even bother to read a simple message that is presented directly in front of them. Even if that message obviously pertains to the task at hand. Forget about reading a document or manual to learn how to do something.

 Industry Segregation
···

October 10th, 2007 ··· andarius

There seems to be a trend sweeping the net. Not something that users are doing either but the industry. Something that makes me wonder what the industry is thinking.

If I ask what is the best way to distribute a document on the web odds are 90% would say PFD. Clients for this format are on every platform and it has a proven track record. Starting to pop up all over are CHM files, or Windows Help Files. I am not a windows user so what am I supposed to do now?

 Look Up :)
···

September 29th, 2007 ··· andarius

Look up! Thats right, we have icons :) . Figured they would add some color and depth to the site.

If you look closely you will note a new addition to the nav menu as well as an item among the icons that was not present before. That is right, I am coding the file management module at present. As soon as I get it done we should have some files to share.

I do look forward to thoughts on the icons and when I get it up the files section. As I code this stuff myself for the most part I am interested to know what others think of my work. While I do use Wordpress for some back end duties of the site I try to do a good bit on my own. This work adds that custom and unique feel to the site I think. Something I favor a lot!

So what do you say!! 8)
